George Thomas, mate of the barque Archibald Gracie, arrived on Monday night, from Barbadoes, was arrested yesterday, by officer Myers, on the charge of assaulting and cutting the head of a seaman named Nathl. Dunaway, with a heavy iron bolt. An altercation had occurred between the seaman, who was aloft and the mate, about 10 o'clock at night and when he came on deck, Thomas struck him across the forehead with the bolt a most severe blow, cutting a gash, from the top of the nose upwards, into the skull. He was taken up and conveyed to the boarding house of Mr. John Malone, No. 55 Thames street, where every care and kind attention were paid him. Dr. Dashields was called in and dressed the wound, which is a most painful one, and he is doing well. Mr. Thomas was examined before Justice McAllister, and released on security to answer at the city court on Saturday. Mr. Thomas, is an excellent man and officer, and it will be recollected that we are yet to hear his statement of this transaction.—Balt. Clipper.
