FIGHT FOR SLUM CLEARANCE
NOT YET OVER

Even though the voters approved by a margin of more than 7 to 5, the proposal for slum clearance and low-cost public housing in the recent referendum, held on June 27, the fight for a realization of the same, is by no means over. I have learned from very reliable sources that the forces opposing the proposal are still planning a last ditch fight in order to keep the project from becoming a reality. The opponents are actually so desperate that you might expect anything to happen between now and the time for the work to actually begin.

This is a special warning to all of people of Miami who are interested
in having our slums cleared and in having low cost public housing become a reality in Miami. We won the referendum election on that proposal, but don't think for one moment that the fight is over. The opposition is studying ways and means almost daily, by which they may still prevent the will of the people from prevailing. They have a lot of money to work with, and they are going to spend it freely in an effort to accomplish their selfish aims and ambitions. Be on the constant lookout and beware of everything, because the fight is still on.

Probably the best advice that I can give on this matter at the present time, is to tell all of you who worked for the proposal during the referendum, to continue to hold regular meetings, stay in touch with each other, continue to study and keep abreast of the developments on the matter, and above all be sure to have a representative at every meeting of the City Commission, when anything pertaining to public housing or slum clearance is on its agenda. Keep your eyes open and be prepared for anything. We can win this battle, but we haven't won it yet.
