IMPIETY
Messrs. Editors:
I have heretofore been a warm supporter of John Quincy Adams, and my principal reason for advocating his cause, was, that he was the only pious Presidential candidate. But I have been deceived, and since I have read in your paper his doggrels on the discoveries of Captain Lewis, my mind has entirely changed, and I am ashamed of having been so long kept in the dark as to his true character, when I might have informed myself with little trouble. A pretty religious President indeed, who can swear "By G-", to effect any thing he pleases: away with such hypocrisy. Let me hear no more of the Pious John Quincy Adams; for my part nothing can ever again reconcile me to his favor.
