ONANCOCK BOARD OF TRADE ACTIVE
Will Have Large Quantity Of Sweet Potato Recipes Printed And Distributed
Publicity pays. This was the expression of the members at a meeting of the Onancock Board of Trade held in the armory, Tuesday night of this week, at which time it was voted that the Board of Directors be requested to take under consideration the publication of a new folder and such other printed materials as they might deem necessary.
Among the subjects which were discussed and for which prompt action was planned was the development of facilities for visitors to Onancock who desired to spend one or more days fishing in Chesapeake Bay. Another matter which was the source of interest was the improvement of the hotel accommodations as an attraction for visitors.
One of the officers of the Board suggested that as business men they were vitally interested in any move which would aid the farmers in marketing their crops at a better price. It was suggested that the local Board of Trade could assist the Eastern Shore of Virginia Chamber of Commerce in its distribution of the sweet potato and other crop folders and literature. When informed by a representative of the latter organization who was present, that the Chamber of Commerce advertising funds were so low that crop folders and other publicity had to be curtailed, it was moved that the Board of Directors of the Onancock Board of Trade be authorized to have printed and distributed at the expense of the local organization at least 5,000 of the folder, Recipes for Golden Sweets.
"I do not know of any more practical way in which we could exert ourselves for the benefit of our entire community," said one of the Onancock members, "than to advertise in new sections our crops and products. The Chamber of Commerce has had considerable success in the advertising of our sweet potato crop and I feel that we and all other business organizations should assist the Chamber in this respect to the limit of our financial ability."
There will be a meeting of the Board of Directors within a week or ten days for the election of officers. The membership committee reported over sixty renewals of pledges and at least many more who will probably sign up during the coming month.
