Strange Proceeding.—A white lady arrived here on Monday night on the steamer Sea Gull from Baltimore and proceeded to her home. As soon as she arrived, her husband and daughters met her with a carriage and drove her to the Roper Hospital, and had her confined as being crazy. Tuesday morning two of her neighbors made complaint of the affair at Trial Justice Hutchinson's office, and Mr. Hutchinson in company with Solicitor Buttz proceeded to the hospital to investigate the matter. They found the lady perfectly sane, and the Solicitor intended suing out a writ of habeas corpus, but met Dr. Buist, the city physician, who informed him that he intended to dismiss the lady. Further investigation revealed that the husband and daughters had tried this plan before of ridding themselves of a wife and mother.—Charleston Express.
