AID GENERAL WELFARE
To The World Editor
The decision of Judge T Hoyt
Davis that colored citizens
are
legally entitled to vote in Demo-
cratic primaries will do much to
establish justice and promote the
general welfare. The shall of the
situation is that court action was
necessary to secure this blessing of
liberty. The right to vote is fun-
damental. Requiring colored peo-
ple to pay taxes without having a
part in choosing their representa-
tives is intolerably obnoxious.
Heretofore our actions have par-
elleled those of the people who
said "Lord, Lord" but failed to do
the things he commanded Theo-
retically. we believe in democracy
In practice, though. we are Fas-
cists at home while fighting dicta-
tors abroad. Our enlightened con-
sciences impel us to detest the
Nazi conception for a superior race
However. we smugly discriminate
against minorities with regard to
political. economic and civil rights
With sanctimonious inconsistency
we assert our faith in government
of. by and for the people.
We enjoy the privileges of de-
mocracy by the grace of the Al-
mighty and blood of our patriots
To make brotherhood and coopera-
tion real, we must extend natural
rights to all people. Any public
servant resorting to subterfuge in
attempting to circumvent these
rights is unworthy of his trust.
