CHICAGO GRAIN
CHICAGO. Oct. 20.-(P-Unsettled and nervous because of the disturbed international situation grain prices displayed market weakness today.
Wheat closed weak and 1 to 2 1/2 cents a bushel below Saturday final quotations, December 1.12 to 1-1/4, May 1.16 3-8-to 3-4, corn 1 1-4 to 1 5-8 off. December 73 7/8 May 79 1-2, oats 1 3-8 to 1-1/2 down soybeans off 3/4 to 2 1-4, rye 1 to 2 3-4 lower, and provisions 15 to 40 cents down.
Many traders expressed belief that the Kearny torpedoing was but the forerunner of further complications in an already complicated international situation. They scanned tickers eagerly for further news of the incident, or official comment, and failing to find anything were content to let the market drift.
Soybeans at one time were above even with Saturday's final price but weakened later with rye, corn oats and lard.
Lard was depressed by grain weakness and also by lower prices paid for live hogs.
