The Indianapolis Star certainly poses a shrewd
question to Socialist Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin
of England when it asks why he, when he needed an
operation, went to a private clinic and picked his
own surgeon instead of using the British socialized
medical service!
We can only guess what Mr. Bevin's answer will
be, but we rather doubt that it will be as straight-
forward as the fabled evangelist who, caught in a
very unrighteous predicament, exclaimed: 'Don't do
as I do-do as I SAY do.'
Knowing how dear the socialistic precepts are to
members of the Labor party, however, we are quite
sure that Secretary Bevin chose to go to a private
clinic and surgeon in order to keep the socialized
medicine hospitals from being overcrowded and per-
haps deprive someone else of the pleasure of being
operated on by one of his government's socialized
medicine men.
