Full Text

Young Ladies.—Some one asked Mrs. Cady Stanton if she thought the girls possessed the physique necessary for the wear and tear of a college course of study. Her reply is both sensible and sarcastic. 'I would like to see you,' said Mrs. Stanton, 'take thirteen hundred young men, and lace them up, and hang ten to twenty pounds weight of clothes to their waists, perch them upon three-inch heels, cover their heads with ripples, chignons, rats and mice, and stick ten thousand hair-pins into their scalps; if they can stand all this, they can stand a little Latin and Greek.'
