TOKYO (AP) Moscow radio charged that American RB47 reconnaissance planes are stopping periodically at Yokota Air Base near Tokyo on spy flights to the Soviet Union and Red China.
The charge, in a Japanese-language broadcast, obviously was aimed at increasing Japanese fears of involvement in U.S.-Soviet difficulties as a result of the use of American bases in Japan.
After the Russians shot down an RB47 in the Arctic July 1. one Japanese newspaper asked editorially if American U2 planes withdrawn from Japan had been replaced by RB47s.
Moscow radio said the RB47s using the Japanese base are based on Guam.
