The following extraordinary narrative, being so well supported as to its being matters of fact, by the concurring testimony, of a considerable number of credible persons; that I doubt not, but your giving it a place in your next Monday's paper, will oblige the speculative and curious, among your customers.
ON Monday morning the 3d of April last, at New-Canaan, in the County of Albany, in a small stream of water, a fluid was observed to rise up, having all the appearance of blood, from which place and for the distance of a few rods below, was a cascade fixed. under the end of which was a vessel placed to receive the water that should run from the aforesaid stream, for the use of several adjacent families, which water so received in the said reservoir, was tinged to the degree of a deep carnation. In about an hour after the water was observed to run clear. And on the Tuesday and Wednesday mornings following, the water running along the aforesaid stream was observed to be of the same reddish colour, proceeding from the like cause. On the succeeding Sabbath day morning a fluid, like unto the former was seen to gush out of the ground in a path, opposite to, and about a rod & a half distant from the aforesaid stream. and took its course along the aforesaid path, for a considerable distance, where it ceased running. And on Monday morning it was seen to rise out of the ground at the same place and of the same colour, as the day before, and run along the said path; after a short space it ceased, when it dried up. and was attended with a nauseous smell, like unto putrid blood.
What so remarkable an incident portends, I leave to the speculation of the curious.
