COMMUNICATION
Tokyo, Japan
July 14, 1955
Honorable Lew Williams
Mayor, City of Wrangell
Wrangell, Alaska
Dear Mr. Williams:

On behalf of the Alaska Pulp Co., Ltd., Tokyo, I wish to express sincere thanks for the very warm welcome and cooperation which you and the citizens of Wrangell have extended to the officers and crew of the "Kosho Maru" on the occasion of its recent call at Wrangell for the purpose of loading for shipment to Japan the lumber processed by the Wrangell Lumber Co., Ltd.

As you know, the "Kosho Maru" is the first Japanese ship to make a direct voyage to Alaska from Japan, which is an epoch-making event in the history of Japanese shipping. It is also of great significance to both the United States and Japan that the lumber loaded on the ship is the first export shipment from your city.

It is our sincere hope that the bond of friendship cemented by a Japanese ship will further develop and contribute to the growth and prosperity of your community.

Sincerely yours,
