The Good Book says:
"When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn."
I have before me the October 11th issue of U. S. News & World Report. Staring me in the face is the following headline:
"From the News Wires—
KNIFINGS, BEATINGS, BOMBINGS AS CITIES TRY TO MIX SCHOOLS"
One of the subheads reads as follows:
"From around the country—North and South—news dispatches tell of another week's tension."
And then the first paragraph reads as follows:
"Tension between whites and Negroes flared up bombings, beatings and stabbings last week in American communities on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line."
And the article tells about an organized student movement in Little Rock to get the Negroes out of Central High School.
And there was another about teenage gangs fighting in the city of Philadelphia.
Surgeons there performed an emergency operation on a fifteen year-old white boy whose spinal column had been severed when he had been attacked by a gang of Negro teenagers.
He and his twelve year-old brother had been pushed against the wall and severely beaten by the gang.
The same story tells of police arresting 15 members of another gang in the same neighborhood the same evening.
Then it tells of another fight between white and Negro teenagers in another part of the city.
Then again, it tells about the Army putting a hundred and twenty paratroopers in and around Central High School; a few days before that the whole guard duty had been turned over to the Arkansas National Guard. But the Arkansas National Guard was not enough to keep the nine little Negroes in Central High School.
Sixty paratroopers armed with billies moved inside the building to take up their stations in the hallways and in the classrooms.
Sixty storm troopers, armed with carbines and live ammunition, were stationed at various entrances and on the steps of the building.
The National Guard was on the school grounds and in the surrounding area.
And then, this article tells about the white students in the high school at Matoaka, West Virginia, rising up and attempting to run six Negro students out of that school.
And then, there is a story of the fifteen year-old white boy who was stabbed, cut and slashed in a fight between white and Negro school children in Camden, New Jersey.
There also was a story about bombs destroying a Negro dance hall owned by the President of the local school board in Colp, Illinois. William J. Hatchett Jr. President of the Colp Negro dance hall and he had been active in his efforts to integrate the schools in this area of Illinois.
The parents there were refusing to send their children to a consolidated school. Four of the seven members of the school board were Negroes.
There was another item taken from the Washington Star of the students in a Bethesda, Maryland, junior high school running the Negroes out and the school board was forced to transfer them back to an all-Negro school, leaving the Bethesda school all-white again.
Bethesda, Maryland, is one of the major suburbs of the nation's capital.
And then there is a story of a mysterious explosion occurring outside the home of two Negro students who have been entered in a white school in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Up in Albany, New York, the Negroes are complaining to Governor Averell Harriman that they are discriminated against in the appointing of members of the State Highway Patrol.
And then there is a story from Charlotte, North Carolina where a fifteen year-old Negro student had to withdraw from a white school because the school children spat on her, threw rocks at her, kicked her on the shins until it was made so uncomfortable until she couldn't stand it any longer.
Then, there is a story of the Negro leaders in Illinois complaining to Governor William G. Stratton. The NAACP contends that there are more Negro children attending segregated schools in Illinois than there is in Arkansas.
Yet, in Illinois in thousands of communities the white people are saying that Negroes shall not go to their all-white schools.
In most of the smaller towns and in the rural communities in Illinois they won't even let a Negro live, much less go to school with their children.
Racial tension, strife, violence and hatred are building up at a rapid rate from one end of the nation to the other and it threatens to gather a velocity that is bound to explode.
Yes, there is moaning and mourning on the part of the people.
It always happens when evil designs rule any people.
But this isn't all
While these evil leaders in the nation's capital attempt to destroy the white people it looks as if they are doing a pretty good job towards destroying the nation, too.
The greatest nation on the face of the earth is squandering its resources and scattering its wealth to the ends of the earth.
Instead of storing and conserving our wealth for a rainy day, we are throwing it away like a profligate, drunken wastrel.
The national debt is staggering. It is already two hundred and eighty billion dollars. This nation owes more than all the other nations combined.
We are paying from twelve to fifteen billion dollars a year in interest alone.
We are doing nothing to pay off our debts and the sad part of it is if we are ever confronted with another world-wide conflict our credit will be exhausted and the sinews of war will be sadly missing.
Our people are taxed to the limit. The tax gatherers are hounding the people and driving them into a state of nervous prostration and mental frustration.
Our backs are almost broken.
The evil men who guide the destinies of this nation have so mismanaged things until unemployment is at its highest peak since depression days. Times are getting harder, money is getting scarcer and the cost of living is still rising.
The farmer and the working man are almost broke. The farmer especially is getting less and less for his products and yet the prices of things he must buy are increasing.
In all this mess our dollar is now worth less than fifty cents and Senator Herman Talmadge, of Georgia, predicts that it will soon be worth only twenty-five cents.
Yes, the people are mourning.
The hypocrites who guide the destinies of this nation have been so busy trying to appeal for the vote of the minorities until they have failed to keep pace with Russia in the development of missiles and other modern-day scientific instruments which are absolutely necessary to the protection of the nation.
They have gambled with the security of the nation. They have been so absorbed in their evil designs until they have failed to protect the people or the security of the nation.
The evil, little-bitsy minds who are now trying to guide the destiny of the nation in Washington forget to prepare this nation to protect the lives of its people and to continue the existence of this nation while they are engrossed in making war against our own people and our own citizens.
The Republican administration in Washington has been filled up with big-shot, big-business people. It has been filled up with big industrialists, big bankers and big New York lawyers.
These big shots have been exposed to be what they are.
They have turned out to be ignoramuses and are more concerned with destroying the white people of the South than they are of preserving, protecting and defending the greatest nation on the face of the earth.
Wittingly or unwittingly, every move on their part has lent aid and comfort to the enemy.
The politics they have followed has caused the people of the nation to mourn. This mourning isn't confined to the South. It is on both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line.
The course of conduct followed by the Republican administration, under the domination of Thomas E. Dewey, has been indicative of men who have small, vindictive and evil minds incapable of great thoughts or great ideals.
Instead of trying to make this nation strong, they work to divide the nation so that the nation can be conquered.
Eisenhower went into office on the promise that he would clean up the mess that Truman had made.
Truman had produced a mess of corruption and Communists in the government. These things Eisenhower promised to remedy.
Instead, corruption continues and the Communists have not been removed from their places in the government.
The Communists, the Socialists, the liberals and the radicals, together with all of the other pinks and punks, are having a heyday in Washington.
When Eisenhower took them over and took them into his organization, he dared not call his efforts a new deal or a fair deal. So, he called it "modern Republicanism."
A lot of big-money people, a lot of bankers and industrialists, have been swept overboard by the tides of this movement and ignoramuses as they are, they have contributed their time, their money and their influence towards the surrender of the nation to new Republicanism.
New Republicanism is Tom Dewey. The last time he ran for President he said that he would continue to do everything that Truman was doing, but that he was equipped to do it better.
So, Eisenhower, under the leadership of Tom Dewey, took his lieutenants, Herbert Brownell, Vice President Nixon and Sherman Adams, and has directed the Republican administration into doing everything that Truman was doing and instead of doing it better they have done the same things in a more vicious and a more evil manner.
Today, they have Eisenhower's storm troopers in Little Rock. They are making war on an innocent and a God-fearing people. There are no better people than the people of Little Rock.
What are the people of Little Rock fighting for?
They are fighting for the lives of their own children. They are fighting to preserve the sanctity of their own homes. They are fighting to preserve and keep their own communities.
They know that unless they do fight their city will be like sections of Chicago and New York City where even the churches cannot open at night.
They know that unless they do fight, their city will soon be like sections of the nation's capital and some of the fine residential sections of cities like Detroit. In these sections, no woman is safe on the streets at night.
People coming into the South from these cities today tell us that in all of these areas any woman on the streets at night runs the danger of either being murdered or raped by roving bands of Negroes.
The people in Little Rock are fighting to keep this condition from their doors.
Now, while the good people of the nation moan and mourn, what does the great general who has conquered Little Rock do?
Like old Nero who fiddled while Rome burned, he is fiddling while the nation goes to pot.
While the Russian people are making great strides developing global missiles and global satellites, Ike is out on the golf course fiddling with a little ball about the size of a guinea egg.
We have another Nero.
The bad part of it is that I don't believe he would ever discover a fire unless somebody told him about it.
It is time to get rid of Nero and all that he stands for.
It is time to do what he promised to do. It is time to get rid of the corruption and the Communists in Washington.
It is time now for somebody to clean up the mess that Ike has made.
