A few days ago the veterans of the Twenty-eighth New York Volunteers held a reunion at Niagara Falls. A noticeable feature of the festivities was the delivery to the regiment of their battle flag, captured from them at the battle of Cedar Mountain in August, 1862, by the Fifth Virginia Regiment of Confederates. Eighty-three veterans of the Virginia regiment, accompanied by ladies, visited Niagara Falls, to return the torn and blood-stained flag, which they captured nearly twenty-two years ago. They were welcomed by, and joined in the reunion of, the New Yorkers whom they had met before in deadly conflict on the battlefield, when they killed, wounded and captured nearly two-thirds of the regiment. The Confederate veterans were cheered and warmly greeted at all the stations along their route to the Falls, and were cordially received by the Union veterans, facts which indicate that the bloody chasm is closed, and that the bloody shirt, which was so often waved in political campaigns, has been run through a paper mill.
