A Child Strangled by a Sow.

A terrible occurrence befell a colored child, some two miles north of the city on the Central road, yesterday morning. While several children were playing in a pen, in which was confined a sow with young pigs, one of them caught a pig, when the sow made at them, catching one of the little boys and mutilating him horribly. His left foot was torn fearfully, and his breast bone and several ribs broken in the operation. The cries of the child brought its mother to the rescue, who succeeded in beating the infuriated animal off. The name of the family is Caruthers.
