AMERICANS IN FLIGHT FROM MEXICAN REBELS

Anti-Foreign Threats Most Persistent and Aliens Are In Mortal Terror.

WORKING CLASS SHOWS ENMITY

Agitators Have Stirred up the Ignorant Natives and the Revolutionary Party Develops Strength-It Is Feared That Domestic Servants May Poison Employers.

(By Associated Press.)

NEW ORLEANS, LA., July 21.-

E. J. Mathos, one of the party of fifty-two American men, women and children, who left Mexico because of anti-foreign threats and passed through New Orleans late last night en route to Cincinnati said:

"One of the most alarming features of the situation is the fact that the Mexican servants have joined in the anti-foreign movement and the wives of the foreigners are in mortal terror of their families being poisoned.

I was reluctant to leave the country. but I simply could not resist the pleadings of the members of my family. I am now taking them to our former home in Ohio.

"The anti-foreign movement is strong in the northern and central portions of Mexico, where the natives have been wrought up to a high pitch of excitement by agitators and agents of revolutionary societies.

"The educated class of Mexicans is not in sympathy with the anti-foreign movement, but it is in a hopeless minority. The army is recruited from the lower classes and cannot be relied upon. The uprising is scheduled to occur in September and it probably will be necessary for the United States to throw an army across the borders in order to protect American citizens."
