New York Expert Promises Important Developments in Battle With Disease Among Children.
New York, July 13.—"An important development" in connection with the epidemic of infantile paralysis was promised by Dr. H. Emerson, commissioner of the health department, today, when he announced that there will be a conference tomorrow of the physicians conducting the battle against the disease.
The report naturally gained circulation that a physician engaged in the work had met with success in isolating the germ of the disease for the first time in medical history, but this was denied by the health department in an official manner.
The health department announced today that in the last twenty-four hours there have been seventeen deaths and 162 new cases. The number of children in New York City who have been attacked by the disease is now 149. A dozen of the deaths today occurred in Brooklyn.
