Pemiscot Argus.—John and Mark Orton, white men and farmers living near Carleton, were placed in jail early Sunday morning on the charge of robbing and seriously cutting a negro woman named Mary Bell. The brothers had been to Hayti Saturday afternoon and were considerably intoxicated as they left. They had persuaded the negro woman to accompany them in the buggy, having hired her to pick cotton. They left town about dark. It is said that, after crossing the iron bridge on their way home, they attacked the woman, robbed her of $6.00 and then inflicted five knife wounds, one of them in the back almost severing the head from the body.
