Planters Fight.
Memphis, May 24.—Samuel Elmore and L. Lawler, two well known planters driving near Collierville, Tennessee, had an altercation Wednesday noon, during which Elmore shot Lawler in the left breast and Elmore in return was nearly beaten to death by Lawler's field hands, crushing his skull with a club. Both will recover.
Violent Storm.
A violent storm of wind and rain passed over this city this evening. The tow boat Little Alps coming up with two empty barges when just below the city was caught and nearly instantly capsized, but no lives lost, the officers and crew having just time to jump on the barges, which were caught soon after. The tornado demolished one or two cotton warehouses but did no further injury.
