LOS ANGELES—(A N P)—With hundreds of colored and white fans and a band on hand to meet him, Henry Armstrong came home a conquering hero last week. He was nattily attired in a blue fall suit and pearl gray hat. When he alighted from the Santa Fe Chief, cameras flashed and the crowds rushed forward to meet him. His arrival was quite different from his appearance in Los Angeles when in 1932 he came here with his brother for a try in the Olympic games, and alighted from a freight train. He often now admits freely that he had beaten his way all the way from St. Louis.
For the first time his manager, Meade, revealed that Armstrong lost five pounds during the fight with Ambers.
Mayor Greets
In behalf of Mayor Shaw Charles Crail, Jr., director of the Los Angeles Junior Chamber of Commerce, officially greeted the champion at the station. Crail conveyed the message "The city of Los Angeles is proud and happy to welcome you home. We extend to you our most hearty congratulations on the new laurels you have won by your magnificent skill, and by the fine sportsmanship that have marked your every achievement."
During the coming week the many affairs in his honor were to be topped by a testimonial banquet staged by Governor Merriam.
