"We have neither Credit nor Money, says an anonymous Author, who has published a Pamphlet under the Title of L'auroit cru, & Qui le croira? which Publication appeared in publick two Days after our Prime Minister told the Spanish Ambassador that the Finances of his Master were so low, and all his Farmers in such a considerable Advance, that he could do nothing for his Court, but advised him to submit, till a better Turn took Place. The Pamphlet says, that, since the Establishment of the French Monarchy, France has never been so badly governed as at present; the King is a Slave to his Ministers, and consequently the Subjects the Victims of their tyrannical Administration; Trade is lost, Emulation discouraged, Hypocrisy encouraged, Roguery protected, and the Subjects sacrificed. We are ruled by three ambitious and revengeful Tyrants, who have escaped the Sword by the Credit of a Whore, kept formerly by a Sharper. This is a short Abstract of the above Publication."
